Specifically for Bb Boehm clarinets, Vandoren have poured their expertise into the unique design of the BD5 Black Diamond Ebonite mouthpiece. The medium barrel length and 1.13mm top opening ensure pure intonation and that the legato is as smooth as the staccato. This mouthpiece is able to shape a superbly rich sound defined by colour and depth, especially in the higher registers, and while the enhancement of one feature usually comes at the detriment to another, that's certainly not the case here, since the sound and intonation as well as the volume is optimally refined.

To get the very best of this mouthpiece, it is recommended to combine it with V21 reeds since, in terms of both intonation and sound, the characteristics of the V21 and BD5 mouthpiece match up perfectly. Of course, other reeds can be used, but for the best sound, Vandoren insist that a 3 to 3.5+ thick reed is used for the best sound. As such, this mouthpiece will feel more comfortable for advanced musicians than for beginners.
